Neck Braces: Why the Moveo Brace is Best is part five of my five part series on why each brand of neck brace is the best. In this story I’ll focus on the things Moveo has done that make their neck brace appear to be the best. I researched on the internet and contacted Moveo with some questions to create this story. Alpinestars, Atlas, EVS and Leatt have already been covered.
So, you’ve never heard of Moveo? That’s ok, I hadn’t either until I saw their ad on RacerX. The Moveo Brace was released to the European market in January 2011 and was just recently brought to the U.S. by D2M in October 2013.
Moveo Neck Brace Development & Design
Moveo has a unique story behind it that I believe is different from any other neck brace manufacturer. They are a spin-off of the Cidaut Foundation, a Spanish transport and energy research and development company who has over 300 employees and has been in business for over 20 years.
Cidaut has a wide range of technical skills and human resources available which allows them to complete large research projects from start to finish. Cidaut has a wide range of expertise. One area of expertise is occupant integrated safety which includes the development of passive safety elements such as airbags, steering, seat belts, energy absorption foams, virtual testing and modelling, biomechanics, dummy development, vehicle crash worthiness, material technologies, active safety, human machine interface, real world accidents. They are also heavily involved in product & process design and development. Finally they are very experienced with energy absorbing materials such as foams, plastics and light alloys.
Moveo Safety is composed of professionals with backgrounds in research, product development and innovation who have a passion for motorsports. Moveo’s main objective is to develop great products that provide a high level of safety, but don’t sacrifice comfort or range of motion.
Moveo began designing the Moveo Brace in 2008 and it was released to the European market in January 2011 after three years of development. They designed and developed the Moveo Brace using biomechanical studies, the most advanced design and Computer Aided Engineering tools and the Hybrid-III and BioRID-II crash test dummies. Moveo says these are the best crash test dummies for this application. They also got feedback on the comfort and fit of the Moveo Brace from professional motocross and mountain bike riders. Moveo says their neck brace has passed the most demanding testing ever carried out for this kind of product.
Moveo’s Concept brace is the lightest on the market at 1.3 pounds. Moveo says their unique flexible hinges provide comfort and safety because the front and back of the brace move separately. The flexibility of the hinges provides more natural contact between the brace and your shoulders and back by allowing the brace to move with your body. It is easy to change the size of the Moveo brace, all you need to do is remove a screw to adjust it from size small to extra large.

Moveo Brace Features
MOVEO Brace Carbon is a protection device to be used together with a full-face helmet. This device helps to reduce possible neck injuries caused by hiper-flexion, hiper-extension, axial load, shear load, lateral hiper-flexion and whiplash, limiting rotation and transferring excessive load from the neck to the rest of the body, through the specially designed Moveo frame.
The base of this neck brace model is CARBON, material used as reinforcement of the technical thermoplastic composing the frontal frames and, mainly, as fabric for the AMC Composite, main component of the rear frame. Together with Kevlar, it makes this model one of the lightest and safest motorcycle protection device in the market, reducing fatigue in long trips and improving comfort.
MOVEO Neck Brace features different ways to couple with jackets (velcro, straps, etc), and the innovative flexible hinge design (FHD) system, which allows the use of the MOVEO Neck Brace Carbon in your daily commuting as well as motocross, adventure tours, Downhill Mountainbiking, Freeriding, BMX and Dirt Jumping
Thanks to the innovative design the Moveo system fits up to 4 different sizes (S,M,L,XL) without necessity of changing or removing parts.
Why Moveo’s making the best neck braces on the market right now
For something most of us have never really heard of, I’m very impressed by what I’ve learned about the Moveo Brace. First the light weight and unique flexibility sound very interesting, another product option with unique features is always good (review soon to come). Second, Moveo has quite a bit of information on their website, which is great because it allows consumers to inform themselves as much as they would like. Saving the best for last – the Moveo Brace was developed by a R&D company with researchers & engineers on staff and a bunch of resources and experience when it comes to developing and testing products.
