Alpinestars Bionic Pro Jacket for BNS Price: $189.95 $148.95 on Amazon
The Alpinestars Bionic Pro Jacket for BNS is a low profile protection jacket designed to be used with the Alpinestars Bionic Neck Support (BNS). I am all for more protective gear in mx and am happy to see neck brace manufacturers making body protection designed to fit well with their neck protection.
What’s good about the Alpinestars Bionic Pro Jacket for BNS
Protection The chest and back protection panels are made of a polymer blend and reinforced by thermoformed 3D poly padding for comfort and shock absorption. What does this mean? Really, not much, there doesn’t appear to be any CE certifications for the chest or back protector. What I can say is that the back protector looks and feels like it can absorb a serious impact, the chest protector seems decent and will take any roost you throw at it. It probably offers a similar level of protection to what a regular plastic chest protector offers. The shoulder and elbow protectors seem pretty heavy duty and are CE level, I just don’t know what level.
Fit OK, the Alpinestars Bionic Pro Jacket sizing chart is a bit tricky. They show the size then the chest measurement and height that fit that size. The problem for me is that my chest measurement and height didn’t fall under the same size. I didn’t want a loose fit, so I went with my chest measurement and can say it actually fits just about perfectly. I would say you can forget about the height number and focus on the chest measurement.
Comfort For what it is, this thing is quite comfortable. A few things combined make this product comfortable. The mesh material vents very well, so you don’t get all sweaty underneath it. It is well designed lightweight and fits very well. It isn’t loose and fits your body tightly. Finally, the soft pads are flexible and move with your body.
Ventilation The elastane stretch mesh is awesome for this application. It vents super well, I have not used a product similar to this that offers ventilation like this and I haven’t really seen anything on the market that I think would.
Low Profile This thing fits underneath your jersey very well and is not super noticeable underneath it when on the track.
Straps The Alpinestars Bionic Pro Jacket for BNS features built in elastic straps to hold your Alpinestars BNS in place.
Zipper The Alpinestars Bionic Pro Jacket for BNS features a zipper on the front, this is necessary for any sort of under jersey protector with sleeves, even if it only has short sleeves. Without a zipper on the front it would be very hard to remove after a moto. The Troy Lee Designs Shock Doctor BP 7850 Hot Weather Base Protective Vest is an example of a zipperless protector that is impossible to remove because of the lack of a zipper.

What’s not so good about the Alpinestars Bionic Pro Jacket for BNS?
Fit with BNS Seeing as this thing is designed to work with the BNS, you would think it would work well with the BNS. To me, it didn’t. There are removable pads on the front to help it fit with the BNS, but none on the back. I feel the lack of a removable back pad creates a fit and comfort issue for the BNS. I do typically find it very hard to find a chest protector/neck brace combo that works comfortably for me though.
Instructions There isn’t much or really any instructions that come with the Alpinestars Bionic Pro Jacket , to show you how to fit it with the BNS. I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to remove the top part of the back protector before determining there was no removable pad and being disappointed.
Removal When you finish your moto, plan on needing help to get this thing off. Once you get a little sweaty, you are stuck inside of the Alpinestars Bionic Pro Jacket.
Final Thoughts on the Alpinestars Bionic Pro Jacket for BNS
I think this is an awesome product for standalone use, but for me it’s not comfortable to use with the BNS. If you’re looking for something to wear with the BNS look elsewhere, if you don’t wear a neck brace and are looking for some sort of under-jersey protective jacket, it’s a great option.
